We encourage our clients to consider the benefits of water-wise garden
design and plantings. Native plants often require much less water than
their non-native counterparts. When irrigation is needed, we are
skilled at
providing appropriate systems for the project at hand. For most
projects, we install the irrigation ourselves. On some larger sites, we
subcontract this work out to the larger irrigation outfits.
All of the staff at Paradise Cityscapes are experienced with multiple
types of irrigation. One of the founding partners, Adam Weir, is also
an Irrigation Technician certified by the
Irrigation Industry Association of British Columbia. We
design and build irrigation systems to suit your needs,
including a timer to ensure that your garden will
always be adequately watered, and not over-watered! We use different
irrigation supplies for different projects, depending on the size,
shape, and content of the area to be watered. Our focus is to deliver
water to the plants as efficiently as possible, minimizing the common
sources of wastage in irrigation systems: evaporation, runoff, and
inaccurate sprinklers. We design gardens with an emphasis on reducing
the dependency on irrigation systems, using water catchment systems
and rain gardens when possible.
Our general preference is to use poly tubing for the majority of the
irrigation zones we install, as that system utilizes metal crimps to
hold the
tube to the fittings. This minimizes the use of the toxic primers and
glues
that PVC pipes require. Sometimes PVC is the more appropriate system
for the project, however, and we install both types. We use a mixture
of standard constant-spray sprinkler heads, rotating-spray rotor heads,
micro systems, and sub-surface drip-lines, selecting the combination
that makes the most sense for the current site and zones. Each zone has
its own control valve, so different zones can be automatically turned
on by the timer, at different times and water-lengths, depending on the
season. We include rain sensors to disable the timer when irrigation is
unecessary. There are many options!
